NwSSU- ISSC receives Magnus Award in Youth Confab

RISE and TRANFORM.

These words loudly reverberated in the minds of Northwest Samar State University delegation to the Ninth Philippines I Tranform! Young Leaders Convention as they received the prestigious Magnus Award in Baguio City.
Resilience, Integrity, Service, and Excellence, commonly known as “RISE”, are the core values of NwSSU, while “transform” is the flagship term adopted by the Youthlead Philippines.

“We are very grateful this recognition given by YLP. I hope that this will inspire more Norwesians to seriously take-active part in helping our dear NwSSU gain more academic and non-academic distinctions,” Rafael Jason Tarrayo, ISSC president, said.

The NwSSU delegation is composed of the Institutional Supreme Student Council Officers together with their adviser, Mrs. Maria Lourdes Brillante, and Student Affairs Director, Dr. Myra L. Pilpa.

After a two-year break due to COVID19, the Youthlead Philippines has finally gone back to its feet with almost 2,000 participating delegates and more than 200 delegations all over the country who came to indulge in some serious discussions on topics of local, national, and international concern. The main aim of the event is to engage young leaders in both individual and interpersonal transformational leadership activities for them to be of greater service to their respective communities and in turn, attain the Sustainable Development Goals.

With this year’s theme, "A Decade of Action: Leading Amid COVID and the Better Normal", the event centered on youth engagement and innovative interventions, useful in retooling the perspectives and directions of participating higher learning institutions on the role of youth or young leaders in nation building.

During the week-long activity, the delegates were immersed in various Youth Thought Leaders Plenary Sessions which focused on certain pressing issues in society such as hunger, economic instability, inequalities, etc. The sessions featured renowned and high-caliber speakers who shared insightful inputs for potent adoption by the leaders in their respective educational communities.

Other highlights of the event includes the Kabataan Fair, DevExpo, SDG Convergence, Cultural Expo, and the Primus Young Leaders Tourney in which the NwSSU delegation has actively participated.

Lastly, the ISSC Officers were elected to different positions in their active solid groups, such as SG commissioners, SG deputy commissioners, SG chancellor, SG captain, SG cheerleader, and SG onliner. Dr. Pilpa and Mrs. Brillante were also elected as national and regional rapporteurs, respectively.

The event successfully ended with the awarding of winners for the various competitions and the oath-taking of the officers.
