Teacher Training: NCCA leads collaborative event exploring Filipino culture

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) recently held a two-day seminar on Mga Durungawan sa Kulturang Pilipino at the NwSSU Business Development Center from June 13-14, 2024. The event was organized by the commission in partnership with NwSSU, the Department of Education, and the Provincial Tourism Council of South Cotabato, Inc. This event aimed to delve into the rich landscape of Filipino culture and education, focusing on “rituals, rites, passages, food production, and sustainability.”

Numerous organizations participated in this collaborative effort, including educators from DepEd Divisions in Region 8, Kumon Calbayog Center, the Metro Ormoc Community Multipurpose Cooperative (OCCCI), local government units, and graduates from Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU).

Under the leadership of NCCA Commissioner Carlo B. Ebeo, who is both the Commissioner of the NCCA Subcommission on Cultural Dissemination and the Project Director of Durungawan, the event featured notable figures such as Dr. Jovy M. Peregrino, Mr. Rodel M. Bugarin, and Dr. Josephine D. Rosos, who are esteemed members of the NCCA National Executive Council, as well as Ms. Valine Mae D. Calmerin, Dr. Aida Paraguison, Dr. Mohamar D. Rindo, Dr. Pamela S. Caday, Dr. Catherine Rodriguez, and Dr. Shirley Maloles, who are members of the NCCA.

Through engaging lectures and training sessions, participants had the opportunity to explore the multifaceted dimensions of Filipino traditions and their incorporation in education with a specific focus on food production and environmental sustainability.
