
Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) took a significant step in enhancing its educational offerings by participating in the Zonal Public Orientation on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 1, Series of 2025, which outlines guidelines for the development, approval, and recognition of micro-credentials in higher education. This orientation, held on March 28, 2025, at Sotogrande Hotel, Jaro, Iloilo City, provided a platform for academic leaders to discuss strategies for integrating micro-credential programs in higher education institutions.

The event aimed to furnish stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of micro-credential development, approval, and accreditation within higher education. CHED Regional Director Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, Jr. emphasized the critical role of micro-credentials in addressing the evolving demands of education. Commissioner Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela led discussions on the importance of implementing micro-credential programs, highlighting their potential to enhance learner mobility, employment outcomes, and lifelong learning opportunities.
NwSSU’s participation was represented by Dr. Ramil S. Catamora, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Mr. Niel Darryl G. Branzuela, Director of the Innovative Teaching and Technology Center.
