First Day of Multi-Sectoral Capability Building for Community Members of Brgy. Tinambacan, Malajog, and Malopalo

The initial session deals with plenary talks about Community-Based Tourism, Best Practices on CBET and Eco-Tourism, Product Features and Value, and Empathy Mapping at NwSSU Smart Room, CCIS Building, November 24. It was followed by parallel sessions to which the participants were grouped according to four topics: Lecture Demo on Cutlery and Burloloy Making for Women Sector, Crafting Policies and Resolutions for Brgy. Officials and Other Leaders, Seminar on Basic Life Support, Seminar on Solid Waste Management for Farmers, Fisherfolks, and Transport Group. The capability building covers until tomorrow, November 25.

AAACUP Online Accreditation completed; NwSSU anticipates for the official results

“With our sustained dedication and perseverance, we are confident of not only meeting but exceeding the standards set by the accreditation board,” Dr. Rolyn A. Catamora, Director for Quality Assurance expressed during the exit conference of the three-day Online Program Accreditation of Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP) in NwSSU for both main and San Jorge campuses, which officially concluded this November 24, 2023. There were four programs, which underwent the accreditation process: Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration for Level IV Phase 2, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and the Bachelor of Science in Forestry of San Jorge campus for Level III. The AACCUP team was comprised of Dr. Analyn M. Gamit, coordinator, Dr. Liza L. Quimson and Dr. Glenda D. Abad- accreditors for BEED program; Dr. Sisenando C. Masangcap Jr. and Dr. Kenneth L. Armas for BSBA; Dr. Charlotte B. Carandang for BSCS; and Dr. Emerson V. Barcellano, Dr. Emerson V. Barcellano, and Dr. Liza M. Tamargo for BSF. Though the official results will be announced within 30 days, Dr. Analyn M. Gamit, coordinator of the AACUP team already extended her felicitations and commendations for the hard work and achievements of Northwest Samar State University during her overall impression. “The documents are prepared and the process went well,” she claimed. Dr. Gamit also highlighted the strengths and opportunities for improvements of each program. “We value their thorough assessment and insightful feedback, and we eagerly anticipate the finalization of their overall findings. The successful completion of the accreditation process is a testament to our collective diligence and passion, reaffirming our university’s position as a model of academic excellence. Let us remain united in our commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality in all aspects of our institution as we await the accreditation team’s comprehensive and final findings,” Dr. Rolyn A. Catamora added in her statement of commitment and support.

Fulbright Philippines visited the Office of International Affairs- NwSSU for scholarship program, November 23. Fulbright Philippines was represented by Ms. Joanne Fajardo, Program Officer, Mr. Justin Dominique Rupido, Program Assistant, and Ms. Andrea Faye Mendoza, Fullbright scholar. Present in the discussion were Dr. Iris Bejasa, Director of International Affairs, Dr. Lorelie Tangaran, Dean of College of Agriculture and Technology, Ar. Vanessa Ayllon, faculty of College of Engineering and Architecture, and Mr. Jake Calagos, Print Media Staff. The said Philippine-American Educational Foundation offers international educational and cultural exchange program for students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, and university teaching worldwide.

COM hosts 1st Research Forum

November 13, 2023- Attended by faculty and students, the College of Management of Northwest Samar State University hosted its first ever undergraduate Research Forum at Business Development Center, 1pm. There were eight student-presenters coming from BS Tourism Management, BS Business Administration, BS Hospitality Management, and BS Office Administration programs, and one presenter coming from the faculty. The forum evaluation focuses on the critiquing of the feasibility, formulation, and alignment of the presented research outputs. Among the credible evaluators were: Dr. Catherine Rodriguez- University Extension Director, Dr. Teody Lester Panela- University Research Director, and Mr. Novlloyd Celeste, former University Research Director. Aside from being one of the accreditation recommendations for the college, the activity aims to bring in research ambience among CoM students and faculty members; create awareness on the relevance of research to the development offered programs and to the industries being catered by the college; and motivate CoM students and faculty members to undertake innovative researches.

NwSSU joined the Zonal Reorientation and Forum with the HEIs, as represented by Dr. Myra L. Pilpa- SAS Director, Dr. Ana Gretchen D. Tobe and Louise R. Horca, SIPP & Local Off Campus Coordinator, Main and San Jorge Campus, respectively at Summit Ridge Hotel, Tagaytay on November 9-10, 2023. The forum focuses on CMO No. 63, s. 2017, otherwise known as the Policies and Guidelines for Local Off-Campus Activities, Republic Act No. 11313, otherwise known as the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law), and RA No. 11053, otherwise known as the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.

John Christ Beraya, Understanding RA 9136 by Engr. Sherwin Brian B. Estanislao, Understanding Electricity Rates by Ms. Deborah F. Gonzales, Understanding Lifeline Rate Extension Program by Engr. Joseph Ian Kim B. Vidon, Wholesale Electricity Spot Market 101 by Ms. Melanie C. Papa, MPA, Total Electrification by Mr. Vernon Ray N. Vinluan, and Energy Consumer’s Rights by Ms. Luz A. Lumbres, MPM. The credible discussants are all Science Research Specialists. This activity aims to amplify awareness of students and faculty on ensuring and accelerating total electrification to achieve greater operational and economic efficiency and enhance competitiveness of Philippine products in the global market.
