Attended by faculty, staff, and students, NwSSU University Health Center in collaboration with St. Camillus Hospital of Calbayog, conducted Seminar on Healthy Lifestyle, today, August 15, 8am-12 pm at Business Development Center. Among the topics discussed were Lifestyle Diseases, Hypertension, Coronary Artery Disease and Healthy Lifestyle. The participants also availed free services such as Blood Pressure Taking and Cholesterol Testing.

Gov. Shareee Ann Tan, NwSSU meet for consulatation and Purple Desk Deal

“Nalilipay gud ako nga nagkita kita!”- Gov. Sharee Ann T. TanSamar Gov. Sharee Ann T. Tan sat down with the university delegation led by University President Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo for a consultative meeting on how the provincial government, through the Office of the Governor, can support the university’s development plans. Among the agreed plans and commenced preparations are the Affirmative Action Plan of Educational Assistance to deserving students from the province’s poorest of the poor class, Extension Program on Agriculture Courses and Scholarship Program for Agriculture students, enrolment of provincial department heads and administrators to the Masters in Public Management program of the Special Academic Program, implementation of the SMART City program of DOST with NwSSU as Partner Academe, Free Review Program for the examinees of the Civil Service Examination, and board examinations for Criminology, Education, Engineering, and Nursing graduates, Free Dental Services Program through the University Health Center, and expediting the process of preparations for the opening of the Nursing program this coming new academic year. After the consultative meeting, both parties signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the establishment of the Purple Desk Program in NwSSU as one of the measures to promote the well-being of the people, especially the students in the university, by ensuring that mental health is valued, promoted, and protected through several intervention programs and activities. SIRAK Kabataan spearheads the contextualized sub-program for mental health called Purple Desk, which aims to provide efficient and effective mental health services to the university community in accordance with Section 15 of the Mental Health Act. The program will involve the training of university mental health trainers, advocates, and peer counselors and the establishment of a Purple Desk Center.

NSTP students undergo CPR Mass Demo

Around 400 National Service Training Program (NSTP) students underwent a training-demonstration on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) last April 29, 2023, at the RSU Socio-cultural Center, NwSSU Main Campus, Calbayog City. The activity was organized by the University Health Center in cooperation with the NSTP Office and CWTS Faculty in partnership with the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Calbayog City. “Maximize this opportunity of learning so that you will be prepared to use it in every opportunity to save lives” – Vice President for Administration – Engr. Rhio C. Dimakiling said in his opening remarks. “Hindi natin maituturing na tayo ay handa kung kulang tayo sa kaalaman” he added. “As you continue to practice and share your knowledge with others, know that you are making a significant difference in the world. BASIC RADIO COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING

Members of the University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council conduct a training on Basic Radio Communications for University Emergency First Responders at the Business Development Center, NwSSU Main Campus. The resource persons are Head of Sports and Physical Fitness – Engr. Joseph Marian Romano, Security Services Supervisor – Joel Tañega, and UDRRM Officer – Eugene Calumba.

COLLEGE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND SCIENCES HOLDS FEB-IBIG RUN

In the spirit of the love month, the College of Criminal Justice and Sciences held Feb-Ibig Run last February 18, 2023 at NwSSU Main Campus Grounds. The participants ran in pairs and overcame obstacles such as Powder Paint Shower, Water Splash, Tire Run, and Military Crawl. Proceeds will be used for the procurement of the college’s sports equipment and facilities to enhance the training of its student-athletes.
