January 21, 2023 – An orientation-planning for the project “Development and Learning Loss Recovery: Strengthening Systems for Capacity Building of Child Development Workers and Child Development Teachers” was held at the Business Development Center at NwSSU Main Campus last January 19-20, 2023. The event which was exclusive for the PSWDO and Provincial ECCD Focal persons of Northern Samar and Samar, and the MSWD Officers and ECCD Focal Persons of the Municipalities of Gandara, Pagsanghan, Tarangnan, Catarman, Lope de Vega, Mapanas, and Mondragon focused on achieving the event’s objectives namely (1) Understand the need to strengthen systems for capacity building of Child Development Workers/Child Development Teachers at the local level, (2) Be familiar with the upcoming one-year partnership between and among LGU, UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation Inc., NwSSU, and UNICEF and agree on the roles and responsibilities of each partner; and to (3) Discuss the overall implementation, mechanisms, and modalities for the partnership and timelines. NwSSU through the efforts of the Office of the Gender and Development acts as the Local Academe Partner of the project.

Resource speakers of the event included Dr. Excelsa C. Tongson from the Faculty of the Department of Family Life and Child Development, College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines, and UNICEF Philippines Early Childhood Specialist Ms. Psyche Vetta Olayvar.
On the second day, the participants made field visits and courtesy calls to the selected partner LGUs namely Pagsanghan, Gandara, and Tarangnan.
