Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) Main Campus has reached another milestone in its pursuit of academic excellence as it recently received from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) for the Bachelor of Physical Education Program. Under the provisions of the Higher Education Act of 1994, the COPC signifies NwSSU-Main Campus’ fulfillment of CHED’s standards for offering the Bachelor of Physical Education program. This certification, effective for the Academic Year 2023-2024, underscores the institution’s commitment to maintaining high-quality education and adhering to the regulatory requirements. The rigorous evaluation process for the COPC took place on January 31, 2024, where NwSSU-Main Campus showed its adherence to CHED’s prescribed standards and requirements. Following thorough assessment and validation, the COPC was officially awarded on February 14, 2024, marking a significant achievement for the university. The entire NwSSU community, particularly the College of Education, rejoices in this momentous occasion. On March 27, 2024, Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) hosted the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games 2024, marking a week of camaraderie and teamwork on the campus grounds. Organized by the NwSSU ROTC Unit in collaboration with the Department of Military Science and Tactics, the event saw enthusiastic participation from the NwSSU ROTC Cadets. The events commenced with an inspiring remark by Sgt. Ryan Emil T. Zosa, the University Director for the National Service Training Program (NSTP). The NwSSU Oval Grounds buzzed with excitement as participants engaged in friendly competitions, such as, the FunShoot-Steel challenge, Color Wars and Airsoft Challenge where participants showcased their marksmanship skills, synchronized movements, impeccable discipline, and the importance of teamwork in dynamic environments. The ROTC Games 2024 not only showcased the physical prowess of the participants, but also reinforced the values of leadership, excellence, and service instilled through the ROTC program.

Individuals who receive rescue training gain self-assurance and the ability to act in emergency situations.  Emergency responders and professionals in fields like search and rescue, firefighting, and emergency medical services need continual rescue training to maintain and improve their skills, stay up to date on best practices, and ensure optimal performance in demanding and dynamic emergency scenarios. This is because training equips people with the knowledge and skills they need to respond calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations, potentially saving lives and contributing to positive outcomes. In conclusion, rescue training is essential to emergency preparedness and response because it equips people with life-saving skills, improves readiness, reduces risk, fosters teamwork, empowers individuals, supports professional development, and strengthens community resilience to disasters. With illuminated floats, marching bands, and other exhibits moving through the streets, the Parade of Lights is a joyous and community-focused celebration. The justification for holding a Parade of Lights stems from a number of important goals and advantages that support a community’s social, cultural, and economic fabric. The event started at 5:00PM in Nijaga Park Calbayog City and parade at the designated route and ended at 9:00PM. The NwSSU QRT provided additional personnel for the security of the event. To sum up, the Parade of Lights is a beloved custom that epitomizes the values of community, festivity, and solidarity. The Parade of Lights unites the community, supports local companies, draws tourists, enhances culture, offers family-friendly entertainment, and involves volunteers and community organizations by uniting locals in a joyous and lit display. Last September, our school’s annual intramurals took place, and it was a huge success in terms of entertainment and sportsmanship. A parade of athletes and students from several departments, each wearing their own colors and symbols, kicked off the festivities. The audience cheered and chanted at the vibrant and energetic sight. The basketball court, soccer field, oval, and gym were among the locations where the games were played. Track and field, basketball, volleyball, chess, and badminton were among the several events and divisions. The Nwssu QRT provided security and emergency medical services such as first aid. An important milestone in a first aider student’s life is the pinning ceremony, which signifies their advancement from student to professional rescuer. Symbolism, tradition, and rites of passage are some of the main factors that help explain the reasoning behind the pinning ceremony. All things considered, the justification for a pinning ceremony in QRT stems from custom, symbolism, professionalism, solidarity, and the commemoration of an important turning point in the lives of first aider students as they enter the honorable field of first aid. The pinning ceremony emphasizes the importance of professionalism in being a First Aider. It instills a sense of pride, responsibility, and accountability as they prepare to enter the workforce and care for patients. The Vital Signs in Emergency event was held in NWSSU-SJC’s Audio-Visual Hall from precisely 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Together with their organization adviser, the NWSSU Main Campus QRT members showed up early. The goal of the exercise, which was led by NWSSU-SJC, was to create a Quick Response Team (QRT) organization that would offer emergency medical aid. An AVP played the national anthem and a prayer before the show began. Mr. Eugene Calumba then went on to explain the program’s justification. In addition to sharing his ideas for starting a QRT chapter at NWSSU-SJC, he also provided some of his knowledge and experiences from managing his QRT members on campus. The NWSSU-SJC campus nurse, Ms. Mona Suzannae C. Jamin, then entered the stage to provide a lecture on vital signs in emergencies, emphasizing their importance and measurement techniques. She covered the many elements of vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, and respiration rate, in her lecture. She added that two other crucial elements of vital signs are discomfort and oxygen saturation. She also gives lectures on the many pulse locations and their causes. Practice and simulations were also a part of the session. To improve emergency preparedness and community readiness, earthquake drills are essential. They help individuals learn self-defense techniques and what to do in the event of an earthquake. Conducting exercises on a regular basis helps improve response times and increase knowledge of evacuation procedures. Locals can learn emergency response tactics through drills and other community-based training initiatives. These activities assess community readiness and enhance instruction. In the event of a disaster, like a large earthquake, evacuation and emergency communication are crucial for the protection of people and property.
