University Hotel Resto, Tabawan Integrated School Ink Work Immersion Deal

NwSSU University Hotel and Restaurant and Tabawan Integrated School signed the Memorandum of Agreement for Work Immersion Partnership on March 9, 2023, at the University Hotel and Restaurant, NwSSU Main Campus Senior High School students of Tabawan IS who will undergo the Work Immersion Program will be provided with relevant learning experiences through exposure to the actual workplace. Present in the MOA signing were University President- Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, Vice President for Administrative Affairs- Engr. Rhio C. Dimakiling, Director of Financial Services- Mr. Gil Leovigildo A. Ancheta, University Hotel and Restaurant General Manager- Mrs. Ma. Almira Calbes-Despabiladeras, Tabawan IS Principal- Mrs. Emelie O. Tarrayo, and Work Immersion Coordinator- Ms. Rosemarie H. Busa.

Stakeholders’ Forum for Industry Dev’t transpires

Committed to provide quality research, extension, and production, NwSSU through the Office of Research and Development Services conducted a stakeholders’ meeting to impart its research outputs to as many beneficiaries as possible last March 6, 2023 at Business Development Center, NwSSU Main Campus. Attended by representatives from various local agencies, institutions, and sectors, the event also served as an avenue in the conduct of rapid needs assessment, alignment of research thrusts and priorities on a local level, and creation of collaborations that will produce remarkable results. In his message, University President Benjamin L. Pecayo said that as part of realizing the national development plan, research endeavors should be focused on addressing the problems in the development of all sectors. “We will be here, we will listen, and we will collaborate through research for the development of our society and our country.” Research coordinators from the colleges presented their research programs and expressed their availability for collaborations with the stakeholders.

EDUC INTERNS ATTEND PRE-INTERNSHIP SEMINAR

NwSSU College of Education in partnership with the DepEd Schools Division of Calbayog City conducted an internship preparation seminar to 226 pre-service teachers last February 28, 2023 at the RSU Socio-Cultural Hall. “The orientation aims to lay down the roles and responsibilities of the student teachers, the college, the institution, the coorperating schools, and stakeholders.” Jannel C. NwSSU, LGU Almagro sign MOA in Services Ties

Last February 26, 2023, NwSSU represented by University President Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo and the Local Government of Almagro, Samar represented by Mayor Amelia P. Cano signed the Memorandum of Agreement to formally secure the partnership in conducting programs and activities geared towards a more enhanced delivery of services to the constituents of the Municipality of Almagro. The partnership will enable NwSSU to conduct Research, Extension, Instruction, and production related programs and activities, provide experts who will serve as speakers, facilitators, logistical, and support services in such undertakings. Establishing linkages and partnerships is among the main thrusts of the University in order to effectively facilitate its core functions of research, extension, instruction, and production thus helping improve and uplift the lives of the University’s service areas.

DTI orients Norwesians on Consumer Basic Rights

RSU Socio Cultural Center- Attended by students from the College of Management, Department of Trade and Industry in coordination with Northwest Samar State University conducted Consumer Education Seminar last February 23, 2023. Mr. Tranquilino A. Racab, Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI- Samar comprehensively discussed the eight consumer rights namely: right to basic needs, right to safety, right to information, right to choose, right to representation, right to redress, right to consumer education, and right to healthy environment. Also present in the activity were Ms. Noaima L. Jamilon and Mr. Jerome P. Butlig, both Negosyo Center Business Counselors. An open forum followed regarding the queries of the students on the said topic. The aforementioned seminar is an output of the college’s research titled “Awareness of NwSSU Community on Consumer Basic Rights”. The session was hosted by student researchers from the BS in Business Administration program led by Mr. Romark Centino with their adviser, Dr. Leo Jesus Lacaba. “This seminar is a timely opportunity that has afforded us, students, the chance to be more conscientious and thorough in our daily purchases… It is a major assistance for me for I will be able to protect myself from any wrongful behavior as a trader”, Mr. Geven Aguado, one of the participants acclaimed

Training Rollout on “BEING THE BEST CHILD DEV’T WORKER/TEACHER I CAN BE”

UNICEF in partnership with UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation Inc., and NwSSU through the Office of Gender and Development conducted a 2-day training workshop for Child Development Workers and Teachers from the LGUs of Lope de Vega, Catarman, and Mondragon at the Business Development Center and University Hotel, NwSSU Main Campus. Similar training rollouts will be conducted to other LGU partners in the coming months.

COLLEGE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND SCIENCES HOLDS FEB-IBIG RUN

In the spirit of the love month, the College of Criminal Justice and Sciences held Feb-Ibig Run last February 18, 2023 at NwSSU Main Campus Grounds. The participants ran in pairs and overcame obstacles such as Powder Paint Shower, Water Splash, Tire Run, and Military Crawl. Proceeds will be used for the procurement of the college’s sports equipment and facilities to enhance the training of its student-athletes.

NwSSU holds Multi-Purpose Coop @ 30 fete

NwSSU Multipurpose Cooperative celebrated its 30th Founding Anniversary last February 17, 2023 at the RSU Socio-Cultural Center with the theme “Sama-sama sa Kooperatiba Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Bawat Isa.” The event started with a thanksgiving mass with Fr. Joseph De Guzman as Mass Celebrant. Congratulatory messages were delivered by Vice President for Administrative Affairs Engr. Rhio C. Dimakiling on behalf of the University President, and City Cooperative Officer Cesar L. Ventures on behalf of Calbayog City Mayor Raymund C. Uy. “This is not just a milestone for the organization but for the entire cooperative…Ang iyong tagumpay ay kaunlaran ng bawat miyembro.” -Engr. Rhio C. Ventures In his congratulatory message, Ventures also tackled the 7 Pillars of a Cooperative which are Capital Buildup, Savings Mobilization, Administrative Leadership, Financial Management and Control, Enterprise Management and Supervision, Audit and Inventory System, and Linkages and Affiliation. Also present in the celebration was Region 8 OIC-Cooperative Development Authority Venus M. Jornales. In her keynote speech, she said that the cooperative sector embraces challenges towards progress starting from the basic level, which is dealing with different individuals up to balancing that significantly improves the 7 pillars of a cooperative. “Thirty years symbolize pearl milestone. Pearl symbolizes purity, honesty, and wisdom in which this cooperative possessed making it to thirty years.”   -Venus M. Free Acupuncture Treatment 2023

PRICK AND RELIEVE | Beneficiaries availed the Free Acupuncture Treatment served by KOR-PHIL Traditional Acupuncture- Moxibustion Research Institute Clinic and UN-NGO WFAS Free Clinic Service Group at Business Development Center, NwSSU, February 12. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and brief introduction marked the beginning of the activity. Prior to the actual treatment, patients underwent initial health exams and were interviewed. Acupuncture is a traditional Oriental medicine-based approach to cure variety of diseases using needles by triggering specific points on the skin. Several patients also received chiropractic treatment in addition to acupuncture. “Salamat kay naka-avail kami sini for free. Kaupay san pamati after. Gidara ko liwat si nanay didi kay para ma-treat or gumaan an iya kondisyon,” one of the beneficiaries elucidated. “These health services provided are very good project of the University to help people in Calbayog. Hopefully the partnership will extend and expand to have an Acupuncture Clinic inside the University and form part as extension program through giving free health care,” Dr. Benjamin Pecayo- University President said in an interview. Due to the number of recipients present, the service was extended until 6 p.m.
