Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU) took a significant step toward expanding its academic and research horizons as key officials attended an exploratory meeting with the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) School of Science and Engineering on March 7, 2025. The meeting, held at the PLDT Convergent Technology Center, AdMU, focused on potential collaborations in faculty and student exchange, expertise sharing, and laboratory exposures. Dr. Ramil S. Catamora, NWSSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Raphael A. Guerrero, Dean of the AdMU School of Science and Engineering, led the discussions on prospective areas of collaboration for both universities. The three institutions formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing on March 6, 2025, at the SWR, Thomas Aquinas Research Complex, UST. Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) was represented by a delegation led by Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, University President, along with Dr. Riz Rupert L. NwSSU Welcomes Sapphire International Aviation Academy for Educational Tour

Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) warmly welcomed Tourism Management faculty and students from Sapphire International Aviation Academy on March 6, 2025, as part of their educational tour across Leyte and Samar. Led by their professor, Ms. Caren Mae Buenaventura, and their dean, Mr. Romar Abaigar—who also serves as the President of the Union of Filipino Tourism Educators (UFTE)—the group aimed to gain valuable insights into academic and industry-related developments in the region. IM Travel Corporation, the official travel and tour agency for the visit, managed the group’s itinerary, which included interactions with NwSSU faculty and students, as well as an exploration of the university’s facilities and programs related to tourism and hospitality. The program, held at the NwSSU Hotel and Restaurant, began with an opening prayer led by Ms. Maffel Ivy Nacinopa, followed by a welcome message from Dr. Myra L. Pilpa, OIC-Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Jessica C. Alorro, OIC-Dean of the College of Management, and Ms. Florabel C. Canaman, ASBAO Director, also delivered their respective messages. NWSSU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ramil S. Catamora, and ETEEAP Director, Mr. Redem D. Tingzon, represented NWSSU at the historic event. PRMSU, the host institution, was represented by its top officials, including PRMSU President Dr. Roy N. Villalobos, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Lilian F. Uy, and Dr. Marlon James A. Dedicatoria, Vice President for Research and Development. The signing was also witnessed by the college deans from both institutions as implementors of the program stipulated in the MOU. The partnership underscores a shared vision between the two universities to lead in producing cutting-edge research and innovative knowledge at national and international levels. Congratulations to Northwest Samar State University for ranking 8th in the regional ranking of the January 2025 edition of the Webometric University Rankings! This notable achievement is a testament to the university’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence and its commitment to providing quality education.  The Ranking Web (Webometrics) has been published since 2004 with the aim of promoting open access to knowledge generated by universities worldwide. This year’s edition evaluates nearly 32,000 higher education institutions (HEIs) based on webometric and bibliometric indicators, collected from reliable sources such as Majestic, Google Scholar, and Scimago-Scopus.  We are proud of this achievement and look forward to continuing to strive for excellence!

To further strengthen career readiness and holistic education for students, Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) joins Oquendo National High School (ONHS) on February 27 for the second iteration of the Division School-Based Orientation on Career Guidance Program (CGP) and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) for Grade 10 and Grade 12 learners. This initiative, spearheaded by the Schools Division of Calbayog City in collaboration with partner institutions, continues its mission of guiding students toward informed academic, career, and life decisions. Following the success of its initial launch at Trinidad National High School, the orientation at ONHS maintained a similar program designed to equip students with essential knowledge on various pathways for their academic journey. The program featured a series of discussions to prepare students for life beyond high school. A key segment of the orientation tackled Tertiary Education Courses/Programs and University/College Admission, with Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU) playing an active role in the discussion. Representing NwSSU was Mr. Carl Neill M. Del Rosario, who provided insights into the different courses offered by higher education institutions and the application process for college admission. Complementing this, Mr. Ian D. Becoñado led a session on passing the university admission, aptitude, and IQ Tests, offering practical tips and strategies to help students prepare for the upcoming entrance examinations. Northwest Samar State University’s (NwSSU) College of Nursing students and faculty gathered at the NwSSU Nursing Amphitheater on February 26 for ConBoarding 2025: an event designed to reinforce their understanding of the college’s vision, policies, and academic framework by providing them with a clear roadmap for the academic year. The event aimed to ensure students remain aligned with the institution’s standards as they progress through their nursing education. Dr. Ramil S. Catamora, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, opened the program with a message highlighting the vital role of nursing students in shaping the healthcare scene. Following this, College of Nursing Program Chair Carl Neill M. Del Rosario, RN, MAN, LPT, presented the event’s rationale, emphasizing the importance of the learners’ proactive participation. Student representatives took the stage to present principles guiding the College of Nursing. Joyce Floriane C. Acebuche (Level 1-A) introduced the College of Nursing’s vision, mission, and goals, while Jillian Gayle G. Maquidato (Level 1-B) outlined the college’s objectives and core values.
