NwSSU holds Multi-Purpose Coop @ 30 fete

NwSSU Multipurpose Cooperative celebrated its 30th Founding Anniversary last February 17, 2023 at the RSU Socio-Cultural Center with the theme “Sama-sama sa Kooperatiba Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Bawat Isa.” The event started with a thanksgiving mass with Fr. Joseph De Guzman as Mass Celebrant. Congratulatory messages were delivered by Vice President for Administrative Affairs Engr. Rhio C. Dimakiling on behalf of the University President, and City Cooperative Officer Cesar L. Ventures on behalf of Calbayog City Mayor Raymund C. Uy. “This is not just a milestone for the organization but for the entire cooperative…Ang iyong tagumpay ay kaunlaran ng bawat miyembro.” -Engr. Rhio C. Ventures In his congratulatory message, Ventures also tackled the 7 Pillars of a Cooperative which are Capital Buildup, Savings Mobilization, Administrative Leadership, Financial Management and Control, Enterprise Management and Supervision, Audit and Inventory System, and Linkages and Affiliation. Also present in the celebration was Region 8 OIC-Cooperative Development Authority Venus M. Jornales. In her keynote speech, she said that the cooperative sector embraces challenges towards progress starting from the basic level, which is dealing with different individuals up to balancing that significantly improves the 7 pillars of a cooperative. “Thirty years symbolize pearl milestone. Pearl symbolizes purity, honesty, and wisdom in which this cooperative possessed making it to thirty years.”   -Venus M. Jornales Part of the celebration was the awarding of certificates and tokens to the Incorporators, previous and present members of the Board of Directors, Outstanding and Most Outstanding Cooperative Members.

Free Acupuncture Treatment 2023

PRICK AND RELIEVE | Beneficiaries availed the Free Acupuncture Treatment served by KOR-PHIL Traditional Acupuncture- Moxibustion Research Institute Clinic and UN-NGO WFAS Free Clinic Service Group at Business Development Center, NwSSU, February 12. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and brief introduction marked the beginning of the activity. Prior to the actual treatment, patients underwent initial health exams and were interviewed. Acupuncture is a traditional Oriental medicine-based approach to cure variety of diseases using needles by triggering specific points on the skin. Several patients also received chiropractic treatment in addition to acupuncture. “Salamat kay naka-avail kami sini for free. Kaupay san pamati after. Gidara ko liwat si nanay didi kay para ma-treat or gumaan an iya kondisyon,” one of the beneficiaries elucidated. “These health services provided are very good project of the University to help people in Calbayog. Hopefully the partnership will extend and expand to have an Acupuncture Clinic inside the University and form part as extension program through giving free health care,” Dr. Benjamin Pecayo- University President said in an interview. Due to the number of recipients present, the service was extended until 6 p.m.

NwSSU Holds Orientation on Monthly Monitoring System, GAA 2023 Targets

February 10, 2023 – Heads of offices, designated officials, and office secretaries from both campuses of the University attended the orientation on the Monthly Monitoring System of the institutional operational plan and GAA Targets for 2023 at the University Hotel Conference Room. Organized by the Planning Office, the orientation emphasized a more systematic and productive year of service in contribution to the achievement of the regional and national developmental plans.

NwSSU Attends Samar Culture and Arts Council Meeting

Members of the Local Council for the Culture and the Arts of the Province of Samar had a meeting last February 10, 2023 at Samar Tourism Office, Catbalogan City, Samar. The attendees discussed the funded programs, plans, projects, and activities for 2023. Some of the promising plans with NwSSU as an academe partner are the opening of research, extension, and graduate programs on cultural preservation management. NwSSU was represented by the Director of the Student Affairs and Services Dr. Myra L. Pilpa, and ASCA Head Mr. Cerilo A. Irinco. As a special token of participation in the meeting, the NwSSU delegation received a copy of a rare book anthology of Samareño songs.

NwSSU, Universitas Brawijaya Ink Moa

NwSSU delegation headed by University President Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the Agriculture program with Universitas Brawijaya Rector Professor Widodo today, February 9, 2023 in Malang, Indonesia. As felt desirable and feasible on either side, the areas of cooperation include any agricultural programs offered by either institution that contribute to the fostering and development of the educational and cultural cooperative relationship between the two universities.   The cooperation will carry out through programs, activities, and projects such as faculty and student exchange, joint conferences, exchange of cultural activity, and research collaboration.

Reorientation on ISO-Required Docs

February 6, 2023 – NwSSU Process Owners convened at the Business Development Center for the reorientation on the ISO-required documents. Ms. Claville Meneses presented the approved timeline for the ISO First Annual Surveillance for 2023 followed by Ms. Florabel C. Canaman led the revisiting and updating of RIPs, PESTLE-SWOT, Risk and Opportunity Registers, Open CARs, Action Plans, procedures, and forms. For the last part of the reorientation, Dr. Rodolfo F. Dollado Jr. presented the documents for the agenda during the MRC Meeting.

1st National Peace Convention transpires

The first National Peace Convention organized by the Volunteer Individuals for Peace, a non-government organization promoting peace and non-violence chaired by CHED Commissioner Dr. Ronald L. Adamat was held last January 25, 2023 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). The event which had the theme “Peace Builds One Nation, One Future – Peace is Here” was attended by over 1,500 participants from different sectors. The NwSSU delegation was led by University President Benjamin L. Pecayo. In partnership with Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) and through the leadership of its chairman Lee Man-Hee, the convention produced a resolution for the declaration of a National Peace Day which will be presented to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr  

UNICEF, UP Center for Women Studies Foundation Inc., and NwSSU Hold 8th Country Program for Children Focus Areas

January 21, 2023 – An orientation-planning for the project “Development and Learning Loss Recovery: Strengthening Systems for Capacity Building of Child Development Workers and Child Development Teachers” was held at the Business Development Center at NwSSU Main Campus last January 19-20, 2023. The event which was exclusive for the PSWDO and Provincial ECCD Focal persons of Northern Samar and Samar, and the MSWD Officers and ECCD Focal Persons of the Municipalities of Gandara, Pagsanghan, Tarangnan, Catarman, Lope de Vega, Mapanas, and Mondragon focused on achieving the event’s objectives namely (1) Understand the need to strengthen systems for capacity building of Child Development Workers/Child Development Teachers at the local level, (2) Be familiar with the upcoming one-year partnership between and among LGU, UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation Inc., NwSSU, and UNICEF and agree on the roles and responsibilities of each partner; and to (3) Discuss the overall implementation, mechanisms, and modalities for the partnership and timelines. NwSSU through the efforts of the Office of the Gender and Development acts as the Local Academe Partner of the project. “I am hoping that we can come together to work for the better future as we are undoubtedly shifting to what we were once accustomed to… may we be effective members of the community as you direct your involvement and participation means a lot to us.” – University President Benjamin L. Tongson from the Faculty of the Department of Family Life and Child Development, College of Home Economics, University of the Philippines, and UNICEF Philippines Early Childhood Specialist Ms. Psyche Vetta Olayvar. On the second day, the participants made field visits and courtesy calls to the selected partner LGUs namely Pagsanghan, Gandara, and Tarangnan.
