NwSSU recently took part in the Basic Research Methods Training (BRM), a vital initiative aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of health professionals and researchers in Eastern Visayas. Hosted by the Eastern Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium-Capacity Building Committee (EVHRDC-CBC), the two-day event was held at Hotel Alejandro, Tacloban City, October 16-17, 2024.

This well-structured training featured a blend of lecture-discussions, workshops, evaluations, and participant presentations, creating a comprehensive learning environment. Participants engaged in critical research processes, including articulating research problems, formulating objectives, and developing conceptual frameworks. The training not only aimed to sharpen participants’ research skills but also to bolster the institutional research capacity of member organizations, enabling them to produce high-quality studies that can effectively inform health policy and practice.

Among the NwSSU faculty members and researchers present were Dr. Riz Rupert L. Ortiz, Dr. Bianca Genel Bedio, and several others, including Mr. Carl Neill Del Rosario and Ms. Rosilda Macapanas, Mr. Elvis Plansar, Mr. Julif Calesa, Mr. Joar Uy, Ms. Ceferina Labro, Mr. Rodel Ventures, Mr. Keith Pecayo.
 
This training fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among health professionals and researchers, addressing complex health challenges more effectively. By broadening their understanding of research design and implementation, participants are better equipped to enhance the health research landscape in Eastern Visayas. The initiative reflects a shift on empowering local institutions and professionals, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes in the region.
